Get involved in H.M.S. Pinafore

Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved nautical comedy, H.M.S. Pinafore, runs from April 9th - 12th and we would love to have you involved in the production! We need performers, people to help backstage, volunteers to help produce the show. Like singing, acting, sawing, sewing, set moving, and more? Then we need you!

To get involved, attend our kickoff Mass Meeting on January 12th in the Kalamazoo room of the Michigan League (Google Calendar for meeting). All are invited, including students, faculty / staff, and anyone from the wider Ann Arbor / southeastern Michigan community.

At the meeting, you can sign up for an audition slot or sign up to get involved backstage, meet the production team, and learn more about the show!

Auditions for the show will follow on Tuesday - Thursday, January 14 - 16 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, at the Student Theater Arts Complex (1201 Kipke Dr - Google Calendar link).

All roles are available for SATB principals and chorus; cast will be selected from the audition pool with no pre-casting. To sign up for an audition time you may either attend the UMGASS Mass Meeting at 7:00 pm on Sunday, January 12th at the Michigan League, or e-mail umgassexec@umich.edu to have a member of the board sign you up by proxy. Walk-ins are also welcome; please arrive before 9:00 pm if you plan to walk-in.

Please prepare ~32-64 bars of a selection from musical theater, comic opera, or opera (in English), and provide a legible copy for the accompanist. Be prepared to read selections from the libretto if you are interested in a speaking role. Rehearsals will average two days per week between Sunday afternoon and Thursday evening for both chorus and principals. Production dates are April 9 – 12th, 2020, at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater in the Michigan League, with full staging and full orchestra.
